Ladder Rules

Your first challenge after registration can be against anyone on the ladder - this applies each year.

Subsequent challenges must be against someone no higher than 3 places above you on the ladder and no lower than you!

New ladder competitors go onto the bottom of the ladder

If the challenger wins the game, then they take the place of the defender and all people in between move down one rung.

If the challenger does not win, both players stay in the same place.

Ladder results are to be conveyed to the Junior Club Captain.

Matches should be one set to 7 games (best of thirteen games) with a tie breaker at 6-6 if necessary. Long deuces should be played.

If both players decide to play more games or 3 sets or whatever, this MUST be agreed to by both players prior to starting the match

Once a challenge is issued, the match should be played within a week - circumstances may prevent this (e.g. the weather or court availability) - if the person challenged cannot find a suitable time, within 7 days, they risk losing the match by default. Ref

The Junior Club Captain or Club Coach will arbitrate on rules if required

The Junior Club Captain maintains a spreadsheet as well as the cardboard/wooden copy in the clubhouse. No-one else changes the ladder rankings.

The Junior Club Captain will provide a new printout of the ladder on a regular basis

Advice on your very first challenge, don't aim too high up the ladder - if you lose, you end up at the bottom!

Make sure your agreed match time does not conflict with large group lessons (Sunday mornings and Friday evenings) or publicised leagues (e.g. Wednesday 7:00 pm onwards)

Allow sufficient time for the match

Bring a water bottle and drink enough...the clubhouse is not always open and the kitchen should not be used by juniors.
